Trees and the Bees Knee’s!
As New Jersians, we’re very fortunate to live in the Garden State.
Our state is abundant with native trees, like the Red Cedar, Pitch Pine, Shortleaf Pine, White Oak, Black Oak, Spanish Oak, Black Cherry, American Holly and more. From the Pine Barrens in the south to Hopatcong State Park in the north, anywhere you drive in New Jersey, you’ll see trees of every shape, size and color.
And that’s a good thing. Trees are vital to a healthy environment and are often called the ‘lungs of the planet.’ Trees help reduce ozone levels in populated areas, as well as absorb sound and reduce noise pollution. Trees also help clean the air and the water, prevent species loss and help keep us cooler. The National Arbor Day Foundation reports that planting a healthy tree that shades your house is the equivalent to 10 room-size air conditioners running at 20 hours a day. Houses with trees are also more attractive to visitors, potential buyers and make neighborhoods prettier. Did you know neighborhoods with lots of trees also report less crime? It’s true! Studies have proven that just being around trees makes you feel good. Studies have shown that trees, especially in urban areas, have numerous social benefits. For example, the addition of trees to a neighborhood or a business district can greatly improve the mental and physical health of residents and workers.

Especially for new homeowners, or when a child is born. In ancient Israel, a tree was planted every time a child was born – cedar for a boy and cypress for a girl. What a beautiful tradition to keep!
